Here we go again. A new season of American Idol live shows have started and the Top 13 have been revealed.
If you recall last year, the first five contestants that got voted off were all girls but after Pia Toscano’s elimination, the next five were all males.
One of my close friends, Alec, swore to me on Facebook that he would stop watching American Idol.
This time around since I auditioned for this season in Pittsburgh, a lot of my friends complained that I wasn’t shown in the auditions. However, when I made the initial cut, I was also exposing last season’s gender voting bias and one fo the producers asked me “what do you mean about gender bias” when I filled out the audition forms. It was an investigation that began with one of the NoSirGifts colleagues in Racine/Milwaukee (Melvin Runecraft) in 2009, then in Fort Wayne (Bob Imperial) in 2010, Chicago, Chattanooga, and Charlotte in addition to Pittsburgh (Juanita Davidson) in 2011.
It has been widely reported in the sources from Milwaukee, Fort Wayne, and Pittsburgh, most of the votes were cast by young girls and not even old enough to vote in an election. I also mentioned in one of the forms that I heard that they are tweaking the voting format, but as of this season, it appears that no changes have been made.
Nevertheless, I intend to vote and have been voting for the girls with Passion as I did after the eliminations Siobhan Magus in season 9 and Thia and Namia last season. This time, my friends, family, and I posted six Facebook events to convince my friends, fans, and followers to vote for the women on American Idol and end the boy’s club streak. I hope a girl wins season 11 of American Idol. If not, this will be my last season I will ever watch the particular program. I don’t want it sound like a threat or being sexist, but it is a fact.
